Best Time to Visit Antalya

The best time to visit Antalya is late April to early June or late September to October. I would pick October first: the sea is usually still warm, the old town is easier to enjoy, and the worst of the summer heat has passed.

Antalya has a Mediterranean pattern: hot, dry summers, mild wet winters, and two shoulder seasons that carry the trip. July and August work for beaches, but sightseeing at Perge, Aspendos, or Termessos can feel like work unless you start early and keep the middle of the day empty.

Spring is better for ruins, waterfalls, and walking Kaleiçi. Autumn is better if swimming matters. May is the neat compromise, but October is the month I would choose for a first trip because the city still feels summery without the full summer penalty.

Season by season

Spring

Mar-May
Weather
March can still be changeable, April is comfortable, and May usually feels properly warm. The sea is cool early in the season but becomes more tempting by late May.
Crowds
Moderate. Kaleiçi and Hadrian's Gate are lively without feeling jammed, and day trips to Perge or Termessos are much easier than in high summer.
Cost
Usually better than summer, especially outside school holidays and major event weeks.

Best for sightseeing. Pick May if you want outdoor time and a fair chance of beach weather.

Summer

Jun-Aug
Weather
Hot, dry, and bright. July and August are the hardest months for long walks, exposed ruins, and midday plans away from the water. The sea is at its warmest.
Crowds
High. Resorts, beaches, boat trips, and the old town are busy, with the strongest pressure in July and August.
Cost
Usually the highest part of the year for stays and flights. Book early if this is your only window.

Best for a beach-first trip. Poor choice for archaeology-heavy days unless you are disciplined about early starts and long afternoon breaks.

Autumn

Sep-Nov
Weather
September is still hot, October is warm and balanced, and November gets less predictable with more rain. The sea often stays pleasant into October.
Crowds
Lower than summer, especially from late September onward. Popular places still have life, but the city is less tiring.
Cost
Often softer than summer once peak resort demand fades.

Best overall. October is the month I would take: warm water, usable days, and fewer elbows in the lanes of Kaleiçi.

Winter

Dec-Feb
Weather
Mild by Turkish standards, but this is the wet season. Rain can be heavy, especially in December and January. Swimming is only for hardy people.
Crowds
Low. Museums and old town walks are calm, but the resort mood is mostly gone.
Cost
Usually the lowest season, apart from holiday spikes and special events.

Good for a quiet city break, Antalya Museum, cafés, and stormy sea views. Bad bet if your Antalya plan is beach days.

Month by month

January
One of the wetter months. Come for Antalya Museum, Kaleiçi, and low-season calm, not for reliable sun.
February
Still cool and damp at times. Good for a quiet base, but the sea is near its coldest.
March
Spring begins unevenly. Fine for Hadrian's Gate, Kaleiçi, and waterfalls between showers, but pack for wind and rain.
April
A strong sightseeing month. Perge, Aspendos, and Termessos are far more pleasant now than in July.
May
One of the best months. Warm days, lighter crowds than summer, and the first convincing beach feel.
June
Beach season is on, but the harshest heat has not always settled in. Go early for ruins, then switch to the coast.
July
Hot, busy, and costly by Antalya standards. Best if you want sea, pools, and late dinners, not long cultural days.
August
The sea is very warm, but the city can feel baked. Plan very little between late morning and late afternoon.
September
Still summery, with a better edge than August. A good month for swimming if you can handle lingering heat.
October
My pick. Warm sea, easier streets, better ruin weather, and enough life in the city without peak-season crowds.
November
A gamble. Some weeks feel soft and bright, others are wet. Better for flexible travelers than beach planners.
December
Rainy, mild, and quiet. Useful for a low-key city stay, but not a classic Antalya holiday month.
When we'd go

October is the best overall month to visit Antalya. May is the runner-up. Choose October if swimming matters, choose May if you care more about long sightseeing days and spring light.

When to skip: Avoid July and August if your plan is mainly ruins, waterfalls, and old-town wandering. Avoid December and January if you need reliable dry weather. For a beach trip, winter is the wrong bet.

Best time to visit Antalya: FAQs

June to October is the safest window. August usually has the warmest sea, but September and October are better months overall because the heat and crowds ease.

For sightseeing, often yes. Beaches and pools work well, but places like Perge Archaeological Site, Aspendos Archaeological Site, and Termessos Archaeological Site are exposed and can be punishing in July and August.

Yes, if you want a quiet city break rather than a beach holiday. Antalya Museum, Kaleiçi, Hadrian's Gate, and seafront walks still work, but rain can shape the day.

Autumn wins for most travelers because the sea keeps its summer warmth. Spring is better for hiking, ruins, and waterfalls, especially April and May.

Spring is usually the better call for Düden Waterfalls and Kurşunlu Waterfall Nature Park because the landscape is fresher and the heat is manageable. Summer visits are still possible, but go early.
