Düden Şelalesi
Düden Waterfalls is really two Antalya stops tied to the same river: Upper Düden in Kepez, where you pay to enter a leafy park and walk close to the water, and Lower Düden near Lara, where the river drops from the cliffs into the Mediterranean. I would not plan a whole Antalya day around it, but it is an easy city nature break and the two stops feel different enough to justify pairing them.

Düden Waterfalls is worth the time if you want an easy Antalya nature stop without leaving the city. Upper Düden is the better visit, Lower Düden is the better single view.
Worth it for
- First-time Antalya visitors who want a simple half-day plan
- Travelers who like short walks, shade, viewpoints, and low-effort photos
You can skip if
- You want a remote waterfall hike with few people
- You dislike compact attractions with tour groups and souvenir stalls

What You Are Actually Visiting
Most map pins for Düden Waterfalls point to Upper Düden, also called Yukarı Düden Şelalesi. The entrance is around Şelale Mahallesi, 21. Cadde in Kepez, and the coordinates here are for that Upper Düden park. Expect paths, damp cave-like passages, picnic areas, cafes or small restaurants, and viewpoints close to the water.
Lower Düden, also called Aşağı Düden or Karpuzkaldıran Waterfall, is several kilometers away on the Lara side of Muratpaşa, around Düden Park and the Lara coastal cliffs. It is the bigger visual moment from land or sea, but the land visit is usually quick. If you have time, see both. If you have to choose, pick Upper Düden for shade and walking, Lower Düden for the sea drop.
Why It Works
Upper Düden is best when you slow down. The paths drop into cooler, wet corners below and beside the falls, and the sound of the water carries the visit. It is not wilderness. It is a managed city park with a real waterfall running through it, and that is exactly why it works on a hot Antalya day.
Lower Düden is the sharper photograph. You stand on the cliff path and watch the water fall straight into the sea. The tradeoff is that it can feel over almost as soon as you arrive, especially at midday when the light is harsh and tour groups are moving through.
How To Plan It
From central Antalya, Upper Düden is often about 20 to 30 minutes by taxi in normal traffic, longer when the roads are busy. Public transport can work, with buses and the AntRay T3 Şelale stop putting you within walking distance depending on where you start, but routes change often enough that I would check Antalyakart or another live transit app on the day.
A sensible route is Upper Düden in the morning, lunch or a walk in Kaleiçi, then Lower Düden late afternoon. That gives you shade when you need it and better light on the coast. In high summer, doing both by public transport can feel like a chore, so taxis or a simple city tour make more sense if your time is tight.
The Tradeoff
The falls are popular, compact, and rarely quiet. Expect families, school groups, souvenir stalls, and people waiting for the same railing photo. Go early if you care about space.
I still think Düden is worth doing on a first Antalya trip. It is close, easy, and varied enough if you treat it as a half-day city nature loop rather than a grand outdoor expedition. The mistake is expecting an empty canyon or a proper hiking day.
Düden Şelalesi: FAQs
No. Upper Düden is the managed park in Kepez, around Şelale Mahallesi and 21. Cadde. Lower Düden is on the Lara coast in Muratpaşa, around Düden Park, where the river falls into the Mediterranean.
Upper Düden is better for walking, shade, close-up viewpoints, and spending about an hour. Lower Düden is better for a quick coastal viewpoint, photos, and boat views from the sea.
Yes. They are in different parts of Antalya, but a taxi, rental car, or city tour makes both easy in half a day. Public transport is possible, but it takes more patience and should be checked live.
Upper Düden is a managed park and normally has an entrance fee. Lower Düden is generally viewed from a public coastal park without a park ticket, although boat trips cost extra. Fees and rules can change, so check before you go.
Do not plan on swimming at Upper Düden or directly under Lower Düden from land. Some boat trips near the Lara coast may include swim stops, but those depend on weather, sea conditions, and the operator.
Allow 45 to 90 minutes for Upper Düden. Lower Düden can be 20 to 45 minutes from land, longer if you take a boat trip that passes the falls.
