A'DAM Lookout
A'DAM Lookout sits on top of a tower on the far side of the IJ, the wide stretch of water behind Centraal Station, and getting there is half the fun: a free passenger ferry that takes about two minutes and runs constantly. Up top you get a 360-degree deck at 100 meters with the whole city laid out, the port on one side and the canal core on the other. And then there is the swing, bolted to the roof's edge, which throws you out over nothing. That last part is the reason a lot of people come.

Booking online ahead of time is worth it for a timed slot and to skip part of the line on busy days. It does sell busy at sunset, which is the most popular time to be up there, so if golden hour is the goal, book it and arrive a little early.
Is it worth the trip across
It is a paid view in a city where you can get free ones, from the NEMO roof to the OBA library. What you are paying for here is the height, the unobstructed angle from across the water, and the swing. If those appeal, it delivers.
If you are indifferent to the swing and just want a skyline, weigh it against the free rooftops first. But the combination of an easy free ferry ride, a real observation deck, and an over-the-edge thrill is a solid evening out, especially at sunset with a drink in the rotating restaurant or the bars at the tower's base.
